43rd Bombardment Group Bombs Port Moresby

At 5PM Eastern Time, the 43rd Bombardment group launched from Reid River Australia after the report of a Japanese task force repairing in Port Moresby. The ships in repair included multiple destroyers and 1 Heavy Cruiser and 1 Battleship. The main target of the mission was the Battleship IJN Fuso. Only one fighter escort was present for the mission. The flight went uninterrupted when a Zero approached the formation, the zero was focused on the B-17E that he did not notice the P-40 behind him, Listen here, Tojo‘s gunners were able to shoot down the zero but sustaining some damage, another zero attempted to climb to the formation, but stalled doing so, resulting in it getting picked off by the P-40. The bombing was successful, dealing heavy damage to the already damaged Fuso. As the formation returned home, they was welcomed back by a friendly P-40 and P-38
